Counselling and Intervention Services

Child Psychology

Empowering Young Minds Psychology offers a range of counselling and intervention services. We have a strong passion for empowering children and adolescents to flourish by creating a trusting, safe, and supportive environment for clients. We value collaborating with families, schools and other health professionals to achieve the best possible outcomes.

A person-centered approach to therapy is utilised, drawing on components of various evidence-based therapeutic modalities, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing, play-based therapies, mindfulness-based approaches, and Social Thinking programs, dependant on individual client needs. The Tuning into Kids Program and Dr Ross Greene's Collaborative and Proactive Solutions (CPS) approaches are also heavily used in counselling sessions.

We provide therapeutic services to children and adolescents who are experiencing a range of social, emotional and behavioural difficulties. This includes supporting neuro-diverse children and adolescents, inclusive of Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder and Autism via a neuro-affirming, strength-based approach.

Counselling and intervention services are offered for a range of presentations including:

  • Anxiety (including panic, social anxiety, phobias, separation anxiety)
  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
  • Depression
  • Self harm
  • Grief/loss
  • Anger/behavioural difficulties
  • Neurodivergence (including Autism and ADHD)
  • Learning difficulties
  • School related issues (e.g. test anxiety, school refusal, stress, friendship difficulties)
